This Site was Planted by Volunteers
in November 2023

You are looking at the community planting at Cascade Grasslands Reserve. This was planted out by community volunteers on the 19th & 26th of November, 2023. Over all 850 themeda triandra “Kangaroo Grass” were planted by volunteers with the remainder of the grassland reserve planted by Contractors and Eat Grow Garden.
Themeda is an important native grass, indigenous to the volcanic plains of Western Victoria and grows to a 1-1.5m tussock. Seeds are eaten by native birds, and the leaves are used as nesting material. This planting site is part of a strategy to bring back the native grasslands of western Victoria, and improve native grassland habitat and ecosystems along the Kororoit Creek.
